Exercise Three: Character, Lighting & Cinematography

Working with a partner, create a 5-7 minute performance piece focusing on the dialog and performance of Character. I also want you to consider carefully Lighting and Cinematography.

Use one of the following chapters: Chapter III: A Caucus-Race and a Long Tale; Chapter V: Advice from a Caterpillar; Chapter VII: A Mad Tea Party as a starting point for the development of an original script and performance. Feel free to edit, delete, and manipulate the original text.

Specifically consider the following issues:
How will you use dialog? Are you always in character?
Could this be a dance? Must there be dialog?
Puppets?
Shadow Puppets?
How are you using light? Color? Darkness?
Sound? Diegetic and non-diegetic?
What is the POV of the camera? Does this change during the performance?
Are you considering composition of image, lighting, general issues of cinematography?
