Marshmallow Challenge - Aesthetic Considerations

Supplies
Each team gets the same set of supplies Instructions
  1. Set up the supplies for each team
  2. Explain the challenge: Consciously consider aesthetic issues and build a structure that will support a marshmallow, in 18 minutes.
  3. Can you construct analogues of: a high pitched scream, the taste of ice cream, a tennis match.
  4. Set a timer for 18 minutes
  5. Go!

Discussion Questions:
What strategies did each group employ? How might you measure success in this challenge? What did the most successful group do differently than the other groups? How many times did you attempt to complete a tower? In other words, did you spend the entire time working on one structure, or did you rebuild the structure several times? At what point did you incorporate the marshmallow: beginning, middle, or end? What principles of art were used in this project? Does form follow function? How is repetition used? Is there truth to materials? What would your group do differently next time?
